| The information about these bars is based on the collective opinions of surveyed students.   These aren't the only bars in Guelph (there are lots more that didn't get opinioned because not enough frosh had gone; give them a try and maybe this section can expand). |
Boo's 3 Victoria N.   A fun place to be on Saturday nights.   The cover is six-bucks-ish, though (to get access to cheap beer), so make sure you save some cash for later when you go out on Thursday/Friday.   An added bonus, if you've been pre-drinking, you can play drunken bowling before you go, because there's a bowling alley in the same plaza as Boo's.   Or eat quasi-Chinese food buffet. |
Van Gogh's Downtown, at 10 Wyndham N.   Three floors of music, and two separate entrances/exits you can line up outside of. |
The Palace Downtown, at 100 Carden.   A big place for frosh.   When getting attired to go to the Palace, aka the Meat Market, wearing a bathingsuit may not be underdressed.   Above Trapper's |
Trapper's Downtown, 100 Carden.   They have free pool some days (check the Ontarion for details), and no cover, which is great. |
The Underground Downtown, 100 Carden. Underneath Trapper's.   The nice thing about the Trapper's building is that you can wait on the other floors to get into the Palace, in the winter, so you won't freeze.   Thursday nights are Queer Positive. |
Club Denim Downtown, 166 Wyndham St N.   Somewhat (very) scuzzy, they occasionally have recognizable bands playing (Goldfinger came there last summer) but it's not worth going unless you a)know there'll be a good band b)enjoy cougars c)have teflon coated shoes so you won't stick to the floor |
The Trash Downtown, 52 Macdonell. |
The Ranch Way in the middle of nowhere.   Take the ranch bus.   Live bands playing country music.   They have a fenced in and heated smoker's patio, so your clothes don't get smokey while you're in the club--just beer-soaked.   Give it a whirl if you've never been; it's a totally different atmosphere than all the other bars. |
The Keg In the UC.   They serve grease-monkey food, as well as alcohol.   On Thursday nights this is a good place to go before hitting the city's bars later in the night.   Pool tables. |
The Bullring On campus, near the cannon.   They used to breed bulls in here.   Do you really want hundred year old bull jiz on your shoes? |
Doogies/Pablos Downtown, across from Royal Bank.   A casual place to hang out with friends (ie you don't need to wear spandex).   They've got live music in Doogies, and a few tables if you want to just sit and talk.   Pablos has pool tables (get the alliteration?) but you can still see the music live from Doogies, as there's a window-thing. |
